Student Voices. Real Stories. Your Platform
Our story
The Westgate Collective was founded on a simple idea: students should have the opportunity to create, edit, review and publish outstanding work within a supportive academic community.
The vision for the magazine was developed by our Editors-in-Chief, Michael Bradshaw and Glenn Fosbraey, who recognised the value of creating a publication that is truly student-led. Together, they set out to establish an online magazine where students could showcase their academic interests, develop professional publishing skills, and contribute to a vibrant culture of scholarship and creativity.
Working alongside them, our editorial team—Luke, Ectorius, Daisy, Joseph and Rory—brought that vision to life. Every aspect of The Westgate Collective has been developed by students, from designing the website and creating the magazine's visual identity to writing the editorial policies, developing submission procedures , establishing our peer-review process, and, of course, writing the articles themselves.
The Westgate Collective is more than a place to publish articles. It is an opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience of academic publishing. Authors receive constructive editorial feedback, work alongside student editors, and take part in a peer-review process that mirrors the standards of professional and academic publications. In doing so, contributors develop valuable skills in research, communication, critical evaluation and collaborative working.
We believe that every student has a perspective worth sharing. Whether your interests lie in science, psychology, politics, literature, the arts or beyond, The Westgate Collective provides a platform to explore your ideas, refine your writing and publish work that reflects your passions.
A freedom and academia oriented magazine and journal for all.
Driven by passion
At The Westgate Collective, we are driven by a shared passion for learning, creativity and the power of student voices. We believe that every student has ideas worth sharing and that academic publishing should be an opportunity available to everyone, regardless of experience.
Our commitment goes beyond simply publishing articles. We are passionate about creating a supportive environment where students can develop their writing, gain confidence through constructive feedback, and experience the editorial and peer-review process in a collaborative and encouraging community.
Everything we do is shaped by students, for students. From every article we edit to every piece we publish, our aim is to celebrate curiosity, encourage critical thinking and inspire others to share the work they're proud of. We don't just publish student writing—we help students become confident writers, editors and reviewers, building skills that extend far beyond university.
